The Geographic area defined as Hamilton West contained in the neighbourhoods of Brymer, Burbush, Dinsdale North, Dinsdale South, Frankton Junction, Nawton, Crawshaw, Swarbrick, Templeview and Rotokauri.

Western Community Association
Incorporated in 1979

Caters for all members of the community from children through to seniors.
A very active and involved community.
Operates from 2 sites, 46 Hyde Ave complex – Community owned, purpose built Community Centre. Second site, Helping hands Family Store and Playgroup premises based at 108 Grandview road.

In November 2004, Western Community Association celebrated the opening a purpose built community centre for the West Hamilton Community at 46 Hyde Avenue, Nawton. The Association was first incorporated in 1979, under the name Nawton Community Association, to provide services to families living in the area. The name was changed to Western Community Association to better reflect the new Western Community Centre’s coverage area, the community of West Hamilton.

WEST HAMILTON COMMUNITY
West Hamilton is represented by 11 Area Units in the 2006 Census, which are: Burbush, Rotokauri, Brymer, Crawshaw, Grandview, Nawton, Frankton Junction, Swarbrick, Dinsdale, North, Dinsdale South and Templeview.

Ethnicities represented in WH are diverse which is in line with Hamilton’s overall make-up.

The average age in WH is 32 years, ranging from 25 years in Templeview and Crawshaw to 38 years in Rotokauri. 44% of ririki aged 0-10 years and 39% of taiohi aged 10-19 in WH are Māori. While English is the most common language in WH, 6.8% of the community can speak confidently in Māori with 0.8% able to converse in sign language.

The median income for WH is $25,000 with 42% of the community living on an annual income less than $20,000.

Families living with a child or children in the WH make up 68% of the community. 24% of the WH community are providing unpaid care for a child of their family in their home. 14% are also providing unpaid care for a child who is not from their household.
